I play Battlefield 2 and Call of Duty 4, I run a 8800GT 512mb, which in theory should run both those games without any major problems.

A general problem is that when in game my game will freeze and my monitor stop responding forcing me to restart, I will also get a blue screen, explaining a hardware error.

The card is not overclocked.
The maximum temperature i get in game is around 56 Degrees Celsius.

My other Specs are
8GB DDR2 RAM 800Mhz
Intel Quad Core Q6600 2.4Ghz
Vista Home Premium 64 Bit
750W Power Supply

I have tried the latest drivers, the problem persists.
I have tried older and beta drivers and the problem persists.

According to my error logs, the cause of this is my video hardware.

Looking at other forums and other sites, this problem seems to be very common, but is there another solution than buy a new card? because I expect the one i purchase to do the job that it is required to do.

Thanks.

The specs you described their should be no probblems at all (i know used to have them myself).

would surgest looking at the motherboard BIOS set up to see if that is correct.

If that fails try to get the BSOD code and google it there is always someone out there with the same probblem.

One thing i will note BF2 never went high on mine but played really well on medium try that, as for COD4 will run on high no problems.

big problem indeed if its the nvlddmkm.sys error.
I seen hundreds of pages on nvidia forums and not one solid fix , different systems mean different solutions to different problems.

I never solved mine but instead re-installed XP and it works perfecto , not a problem in months of gaming , i advise going with a more stable OS , and yes some may have vista and it works perfect BUT most dont. My other setup runs fine on Vista but XP is much more stable.

Here is kind of a loooong thread you might find something useful here but i get lost trying to navigate for possible solutions :

I have a 8800GT and had problems with games too. Sometimes it **** the textures with wrong colours and missplaced textures. So I had a big eye instead of a tree.

The problem was caused by the core clock from my 8800GT. The core clock was normally 660mhz. So i chanced it to 636mhz and there were no problems anymore. Maybe you have to try that once.

And if you have a G15 keyboard:
I have a g15 myself and i has major problems with game's. Frontlines fuel war runned with 2 fps... So i unplugged my g15, started the game and then plugged my g15 back into the pc. And the game runs smoothly on 30-40 fps..

It sounds really weird tough but it's really true :P

hope i helped you a bit :)

All fixed using this method

This is what appears to happen.
during the installation of the most current drivers 100.65 Vista, an OLD file
nvlddmkm.sys is copied into windows/system32/drivers and not the current one
in the install. As a result the new drivers are attempting to access a file
dated 11/2006 instead of 2/2007 ver 7.15.11.0065 which is in the newest WHQL
driver ver 100.65 vista 32.

Fix: Go to windows/system32/drivers and rename nvlddmkm.sys to
nvlddmkm.sys.old. Go to the nvidia directory and find the file nvlddmkm.sy_
and copy it to windows/system32. Run the cmd window as adminstrator (DOS box) type EXPAND.EXE nvlddmkm.sy_ nvlddmkm.sys. When the expansion is complete, copy
the new nvlddmkm.sys to windows/system32/drivers and restart the computer.

Your computer should now work properly.

You will notice that any uninstall and reinstall of nvidia drivers will not
remove the old nvlddmkm.sys file and will not overwrite it with the newer
version. You have to do it manually. I do not know why this happens but who
cares as long it is fixed.

Yeah that method only works if your drivers correspond to those dates given. Glad it worked for you though i know that method didnt work for 90% of people on the nVidia forums.
