You can get a clue about how good a person is by looking at rank and stats, but the only way to tell is ti play together.. A person with a high rank might be an a**hole who only thinks about himself and his score, and goes lonewolf all the time. On the other hand a, lets say corporal, might be a great team-player etc.
I try to be a good team-player... And as a fact, it's much easier to earn points in a good squad than as a loner..!

You have to set your own standard for what you consider a good player.

I consider a good player someone who is well rounded with all kits, vehicles and weapons.

I consider a good player a team player looking to not only advance in their own stats but to help their team out as best as they can.

I consider a good player someone that knows that there is always more to learn and new players out their to teach what they have learned with patients.

I consider a good player one that is able to adapt and overcome in almost any situation.

Lastly I consider a good player one that can play on any server, map, or team under any or no in house rules and come out with a team score about equal to their kill score.

Stats mean nothing with all the hackers, padders, and spammers out there.

Rank means nothing. If you play long enough you will get promoted.

Just because a player gets a gold medal at the end of the round also does not make them a good player. It just means they were doing what they knew best.

The best way to recognize a good player is to see them in action under pressure. How long they can hold a line or advance into a hostile area, usually leading a squad. The best players Ive played with always kept a squad or team on the same page, usually threw VOIP. They knew their strengths and weaknesses as well as the players around them and how to benefit from them.

K/D ratio means little as well because there is someone always better and someone always worst. One could look at my current 2.7 and think that I can kill 2 people and seriously wound a 3rd in any situation. Not the case. If I am ground pounding my stats suggest that I am only slightly more likely to kill the average BF2 player possibly wounding a 2nd guy before I need a medic, but vehicles are easy to operate IMO so I have a 2.7 ATM. For example even though -=S.A=-Harot has a 1.96 and I have a 2.7, it is more likely that if we both came at each other with assault rifles he would win.

There is no ONE thing that makes a player good. You can be good in something, but in overall you do not so well.

You cant say if someone is good, just by looking at his stats. If you watch his games, then you know better.

I would say a good player is not only a killing machine alone, but also a working horse who can turn the tide of a battle. Basically mastering the kits and vehicles isnt enough, and you have to also know when to change a kit or a vehicle. What do you with a jet whore when all the enemies go infantry? Or what does the engineer do in a long range fight? They are not helping the team or themselves, thats for sure.

Being able to work as a team is important also. Most of us at least sometimes play just to get the best scores, while their team is getting raped. Sometimes you have to get raped for your team. Defending a critical capture point and buying time for the reinforcements might cause your team to win and you to get killed a couple of times.

SO, if you have fighting skills, the knowledge and ability to work as a team, I would consider you a good player.

Players K/D ratio is always going to be lower than the real time daily average because players get better as they play.

I wouldn't say getting raped for your team does it but making a sacrifice does help. I could take Ghost Town for example. Everyone knows how the choppers spawn on that map. My team couldn't get one off the ground so I hovered a blackhawk in the path between the mobile AA and the Apache so it could get off the ground. I died but we won. That was me being a team player instead of that retard that waits with an M95 to TK for it.

I agree.
I am not good or bad, just average in I/O, but at the beggining I got killed a lot ! my K/D reached 0.89, then I start to improve it and now, after 20.000 points, it's 1.21 but I'm sure that if I open a new account it'd be a lot better, but I don't wanna do it.

I think the only way you can now this is playing, be it with the same team or not. If he kills you a lot and your teammates, then he/she is good, if he/she helps your team to achieve the victory, then it's good. Otherwise is not so good.

when I first started playing this game on a crappy AGP 8x video card, my K/D ratio was like 0.40 : 1.

Now it's 1.5, rises a little every day ..

But how I actually do really fluctuates with every game. I'll go in a server and go 80 & 4, other times I'll go in, get nadespammed, claywhored, or carrier raped to like.. 10 & 20. Or just run into another player who is extremely good in jets/choppers/whatev and get destroyed most of the game.

There's not a person around I can't at least go 1:1 with in infantry though ;p I ace all the generals. Just wish I was better in the vehicles..

I think being a good player means not just whoring points, but actually making a contribution to your team as a whole, and nothing more. You only have to be good at one thing to do that - like being good in jets, so you keep the other jets from raping your team, or good in choppers to keep all the tanks/apcs in check, or a good flag capturer to keep the vehicles out of your enemies' hands.

I gotta agree with the virgin. When you have some element of teamwork you know you have a good team!
