Earlier this week DICE stated that Battlefield 3 played on Xbox 360 without the installed texture pack looks like "standard definition."

“The thing with the 360 is that you need to be able to give consumers a game where you don’t have to install it on a hard drive, because there are 360s without a hard drive,” said Battlefield series producer Patrick Bach

“So we need to give you the option of installing it, rather than just demanding it. You could call it a ‘standard-def’ version for the 360 if you don’t have a hard-drive.”

It looks noticeably better on PC......

My Brother Inlaw has it on Xbox 360, and while it looks good, (Graphically best i have seen on Game Console so far) its clearly better on my PC, not just graphically but there is also more going on, textures, things floating about, explosions, flying debris....... there is more of it and in much better detail.

well the hand looks a bit ugly (even in HD pack) and lighting effects (mainly shadows) are missing on xbox, but I think here you barely see a difference.

I think the main difference is that we have 64 players and alot more vehicles and object going around everywhere whereas xbox has 24 ppl etc.

The Xbox 360 specs are not actually to bad.......

IBM / AMD 3.2 GHz Tri-Core Xenon (AMD Athlon x3 3.20Ghz)

512 MB of GDDR3 RAM clocked at 700 MHz

500 MHz AMD Xenos (ATI Radeon X1900 / X1950)

Both the CPU and GPU were specially designed for the 360 by AMD / IBM and then glued onto a Foxconn Board.

Sure by today's PC equivalent its a low end gaming system, but for its day (May 2005) it was pretty bloody good, and it can still cut it today all be it with today's PC games set to medium settings, and even then still only getting 30 FPS.

A PC like that would have cost a lot more to build in 2005.

But i do think it is starting to show its age now and its time it was replaced.

the problem is that bf3 eats a heart out of your pc on 1920x1080 pixels, whereas the console version runs at somethingx680, quite a huge difference.
also, 24 players
and much, much more.
yes it's not bad... but you are making it look better then it is.

I take your point, i'm not a fan of GC's i'm just impressed by what they managed to stuff into a little box back in 2005 and make it work.

Oh and yeah, my poor old XFX 5770 GPU gets hot, i have set the game settings as high as they will go to give me the balance of smooth gameplay and good graphics, i have had to overclock the GPU to get all settings hight and 2x AA, 16x Anisotropic Filtering, HBAO Ambient Occlusion.

Its pretty clear the GPU is not happy, the fan spins up and goes nuts, the heat starts to radiate off the side panel...... i just hope it does not go with a BANG before i can afford a much better one. :|
