So I've recently restored my computer, and I have re-installed BF2. Now I have the dreaded Punkbuster issues.

I know either Windows Firewall or Webroot Spysweeper/Anti virus are blocking it, or even both. Yet I cannot select PB as a program to set to allow in Windows firewall, and Webroot keeps snatching PB as spyware. I've set it to ignore in Webroot, if anyone has any knowledge or suggestions any input would be appreciated.

*And I will NOT turn them off to play*
Thanks

You can add PnkBstrA and PnkBstrB to the windows firewall.

In my windows 7 they are located in:

C:\Windows\SysWOW64\PnkBstrA.exe
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\PnkBstrB.exe

I suppose it the same in Vista, since it's the same crap.

The big problem is, that these:
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\PnkBstrA.exe
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\PnkBstrB.exe

are not showing up at all.

Which doesn't make sense, at least not to me. Webroot has picked up PnkBstrB.exe before and I set it to ignore, but I am unable to locate these files anywhere. I've checked that spot, and C:\Windows\System32 for it, but to no avail, I still haven't found them.

The folders do show, thats no problem. But the actual Punkbuster execution files are not.
I've done system searches for:

PnkBstrA.exe & PnkBstrB.exe
I've even tried looking for different variations like pb etc.

Hell, I've updated PB and it is at it's current updated form, so it has to be there, but I keep getting kicked right away for the Service Communication crap.

How I hate computers.

Hello

Try looking in C:\Windows\System32.

It's where I have PnkBstrB and A.

Also, if you can't find them just open up your task manager and go to services and find the service called PnkBstrA and right click on it, it should take you to the correct process in the processes tab (you need to have it show all processes and not just user ones since it's a system process)

Then right click on it and select show file location and it should take you to the location where the file is.

Fixed the same problem at a friend of mine, not really sure what I did again lol.

But you do have to add them to your firewall, that's for sure.
Start up BF2 and check your processes to see if punkbuster is running at all, you might also need to run BF2 as administrator.

Thanks guys.
So one problem is fixed. I am no longer being kicked for PB issues, turns out I wasn't running BF2 as an administrator.... FAIL

But, when I have Webroot on, the game doesn't load in the loading screen, so somehow it is blocking the game. I don't know of anyways to stop it from doing so.
