Aparantly this is confirmed now, heres the news.

what made cod4 so popular was the gameplay and dedicated servers on the game, dedicated servers play a MAJOR part in pc gaming.

well im certainly not getting it

I've summarized some of my own thoughts from the cast here:

General

* IW partnering through Steam is what you will see in the future. Matchmaking is not through Steam, but IW.NET is run in conjunction with Steam.
* GSP's will no longer be renting out servers.
* No PunkBuster. VAC will be used as an anti cheat.
* Retail distribution: Pre-orders will get a disk. Or you could order from Steam.
* DLC may now need to be paid for - not confirmed.
* Piracy was only a small reason for going to IW.NET - not the whole reason.

Clans:

* No more clan servers. Private matches, replace clan servers.
* Listen servers will connect to each other.
* IW.NET/Steam will replace the community server admin

Competitive Gaming

* Competitive gaming has changed forever.
* It might be possible in the future for IW engineers to load a "competitive" setting on IW.NET, but it is far from a guarantee. It might also never happen.

Modding

* Modding the game is now very much in question. Fourzerotwo had no info on modding. However, it appears that there will be no mods or maps for MW2.
* Modding in SpecOps? Unknown.

Suicide is fun on any medium!

Pretty much everyone I know that pre-ordered it have cancelled their pre-orders. Sucks to be IW right now.

Same goes with CodeMasters, they've lost over $1 Million because they never supported Dedicated servers along with no serial key.

Cancelled their orders? That game looks amazing! I just watched a demo of it - the snow storm one - and it seems really good. Despite no dedicated servers, won't it just be like BF2 where other people/clans just have their own servers?

Basically means that people have to host servervs from their own homes. And most people out there dont have enough bandwidth to host servers with anymore than a few people. You need the bandwidth GSP's provides for anything above a few players.

Another game that has been totally made for the console and then ported to PC. Sucks to be a PC user, or at least it seems it will be in a few years when bugger all comes out for the PC, and what does was just a simple port from console games.
Although i cant really blame Game Devolpers/Companies doing it why make a game on a platform that can be hacked, pirated and generally f**ked about with, when you can make it cheaper for the console, and then theres little risk of it being pirated, no chance of cheaters or hackers ruining peoples enjoyment, and if theres online stats no chance or them being f**ked about with.

Maybe i should accpet it's a losing battle and go out and buy a console now?

Seems to me, the big money to be made from these games is making them for console users. The PC market is small in comparison to PS and XBOX. That's why PC users are not getting any support with features that you wouldn't expect to find on the console versions such as CD-Key verification and Anti-Cheat support along with dedicated servers. It would also end after sales service for developing patches for the game. I'm not entirely sure if they patch console software.

What the PC market requires is a FPS game that is dedicated for PC then ported to console, not the other way around. Wouldn't surprise me if Battlefield Bad Company 2 went down a similar route as OFP2 and MW2.

My heart is in FPS games for the PC - but if the interest is being lost by the game developers what hope do i have left in the PC side of things? not much hope unfortunately as everything is being supported on the Console now, so it leaves me to go and buy a PS3 after Christmas once the sale's start

It looks like that almost every major gaming company/developer is purposely trying to kill PC gaming. Just look what they did with the GTA4 PC version. They really messed it up.

But mark my words, my fellow PC gamers out there, PC will rise from the ashes once more to claim its rightfull place as the KING of gaming platforms. 8-)

I have a computer that can run Crysis on very high settings without any problems (mostly). I'm not going buy a new computer just to be able to play bad PC port of an overrated Xbox360 game. Its just bad programming, plain and simple.

Edit: And dont get me wrong, i think GTA4 is a good game (i'd give it 8/10), but i think it doesnt deserve all the praise and high ratings that it has gotten (current metacritic rating is 98). I mean there were less side missions, The liberty city was smaller compared to other GTA games (especially GTA San Andreas) etc, i could go on for longer but i wont.

Well i can understand now. At first i thought this was some kind of a joke from Infinity Ward, a very very VERY disturbing and sick joke. :evil:

I cancelled my pre-order not too long ago. I'm not going to put up with this shit. Everyone sign the petition. :mrgreen:
